EXHIBITION STATEMENT

It Hangs Above My Head

This mixed-media installation highlights the collective grief and loss that our city has experienced throughout the pandemic. It specifically references the loss of my husband in August 2020, who succumbed to a heart attack at the age of 41 years old. This experience has made me very aware of the preciousness of human life, as well as the threat of being on borrowed time. It Hangs Above My Head is an idiom that relates to the threat of lives cut short by the pandemic. It makes me think about my level of comfort before my recent loss, and how we all need to be grateful for our blessings and loved ones on a daily basis.

This work was funded, in part, by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture.
